Visual Facts, Visualized Factually

Documentary Animation & Motion Design

Oddtoe is a 2d and 3d documentary animator. I love facts, data visualization, & animated storytelling. I beg for more graphics whenever I watch documentaries, which is quite a bit. Animated maps, ways to visualize time and place, conceptual diagrams, crime reports, newspaper clippings — the visual library for a documentary animator is enormous.

With a background in interactive design for kids at National Geographic, I now design data and stories for documentaries and for web series content. The visualizations I do are meant to shed light on the events and people in these documentaries. I think they add a beautiful compliment to what is often just plain video reporting.

Documentary Artist & Animator

Imagine taking data and turning it into animated stories — factual, but also enjoyablely creative as to how they unfold. Facts are scenes in meticulously crafted shorts, helping the documentary present important information. Cinematography and illustration are combined and designed to make you see data in a way that’s not only understandable but downright pleasing. The visuals don’t just complement the content; they can elevate it, making even the most ordinary facts feel fun to discover.

Think of scenes in your head: Page through a vintage scrapbook, where

animated illustrations, newspaper clippings, or crime reports visualize key points in your documentary This isn’t just about throwing graphics on a screen; it’s about having a ‘go’ at reimagining storytelling.

Whether it’s a documentary that dives deep into complex events or a web series that uncovers hidden stories, I like how animation can add a new layer of depth and intrigue. I design data, scene explainers, and conceptual diagrams of all types. Information in motion that is not just understandable, but also oddly captivating.

I love reading non-fiction books. Personally, I like science, biographies, and geography, especially how it relates to people. But it’s all good, to be honest.
