The Best 3 Songs on…

Taylor Swift’s New Album

Now, here’s my challenge: I’ve picked my top three songs off the new album — “Honey,” “The Fate of Ophelia,” and “The Life of a Showgirl (feat. Sabrina Carpenter).” You tell me which ones I completely missed the point on. Do we have the same taste?

Melbourne, Australia
Launched on Friday night - I wish I was there to listen to it with my daughter.
So, this Friday, Taylor’s dropping her new twelve-track album Showgirl — and yes, she’s only brought one guest to the party: Sabrina Carpenter, on the title track. Curtis and I looked for Sabrina Carpenter & Lana Del Rey albums for you in Philadelphia. Ultimately, we decided to get you the Taylor Swift book. 🙂

“Honey” just hits right. It’s got that lazy, late-afternoon groove — the kind of song you accidentally hum while making coffee. There’s something quietly tough in it too, like she’s saying, yeah, love hurts, but I’m still here. I respect that. Grown-up resilience disguised as a pop song. What do you think of this one.

“The Fate of Ophelia” is moody and cinematic and maybe my favourite on the album, Sylvie — the kind of track that makes you want to sit in the car for an extra minute after parking. I played it today just after I played tennis with a few friends and I thought of you. It feels like a story that knows it’s not going to end well but it’s a very good opening to the album.

“The Life of a Showgirl (feat. Sabrina Carpenter)” — that one’s pure fun. Two voices, big sparkle, zero apologies. I like her upbeat songs and she’s seemed to keep the best two songs for last on the album.

I give the album a solid “B” to “B+”. Being a Yank, I really like her twangy, upbeat songs. A few songs sound similar to those on her older albums.

But I’ve got the three songs above saved on my Spotify.

I’ll even play them for Curtis!  🙂
