Sylvie Silly

Inside Jack’s Magazine

I have so much footage of Sylvie being silly. Honestly, she shares my love of absurdity. Many a school day, Sylvie and Curtis joined me at Jack’s Magazine along the Maribyrnong River. This was school somedays for my kids during the Covid-19 lockdowns. Sylvie always brought the levity (and a massive amount of school books).

Weekend Festivals in the City

4th of March, 2022 — Sylvie, Curtis, and me goofing about on the Yarra River. Birrarung Marr festival and fun in the CBD.

Moomba? Just another day in the city, strolling the Yarra? Yes. Saturday afternoons, we took the train from Ascot Vale to Flinders Street Station. I bought drumsticks for the kids, for the drum kit I so badly wanted them to play! 🙂

We did get this fantastic photo with the sticks, though. Drummers-to-be, maybe…?

My Favourite Photo

Camping in Queenscliffe

Last photo I have of Sylvie and me. Camping trip to Queenscliffe. Waterpark in the summer holidays days before Christmas — 21 December, 2023.

After a long day travelling to Queenscliffe, Sylvie, Curtis, and I settled in at our campsite just outside of town.

The next morning, we went to the huge waterpark on the Bellarine Peninsula. Proud of Curtis for going on one death ride at the waterpark. Then he chickened out. And Sylvie dared me to go on the next death ride at the place: the Tsunami.

Sylvie tricked me numerous times, faking huge drops with her face. The horror lasted only two minutes. But her theatrics cracked us up for the next few days.

Off to see Curtis...

Somers Trip with Sylvie

Sylvie and I drove down to Somers to see Curtis at his school's camp. 3rd of December, 2023.

On a beautiful morning, Sylvie and I packed up from our house in Ascot Vale and drove the three hours to see her brother, my son, Curtis.

We packed the car full of Curtis’ sweets and sang Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” a few times in the van. Before we left, Sylvie and I drove around the town of Somers, imagining what it’d like to live in various houses there.

Bon Jovi air guitar from Sylvie on the ride home — crinkled hands fake-playing the guitar and laughing.
